The perfect hosts
September 2017
I've been staying here when working at the NEC for years! Who wants to stay in a stuffy corporate hotel when you can stay in this beautiful period farmhouse instead. And at a fraction of the cost. Cathy is just lovely. As is hubby, cAt, and norty dog Midge. Nothing is too much trouble.

Rustic hideaway - just perfect
August 2016
What a fantastic B&B! We stayed for two nights on a bank holiday weekend with our one year old son. We stayed in the beautifully light family room with its gorgeous beds, comfortable chairs, plenty of storage, tea/coffee facilities and a lovely bathroom (note, bath not shower, but this was actually a plus for us, as it makes one completely relax and make time for a bath!) If required, though, there is a shower available that one can use.
A real bonus when staying in a B&B with a baby is the use of another space for when your baby has gone to bed or is napping. We had the use of a beautiful sitting room, complete with magazines, books, children's toys, television and log burner.
Now, a word about Cathy, the owner. She was the perfect hostess. Tea and biscuits were offered on our arrival, and even laid out on a rug on the gorgeous lawn in the evening sun for us. In addition, she provided our son with a children's tea each evening (lovely fresh vegetable pasta one night, and an egg, cheese, tomatoes and muffin like a little baby picnic on the other. Of course the eggs were from the hens (which roam freely in the farmyard) and the courgettes for the pasta, grown in the garden. For ourselves, we had asked for one of the evening 'pot luck' meals, but instead Cathy suggested she babysat for us so we could go out. An offer we gladly accepted! What a luxury to have a night out sans baby!
Another major plus for us on our visit to Shrewley Pools Farm B&B was the farm and animals. For a one year old like ours, who is quite active and interested in animals, this was absolutely perfect. The animals (pigs, hens, a gorgeous dog and cat, ducks and ducklings!) are all so friendly and tame. In fact, we chose to stay here on this basis when we had actually been looking for somewhere in the Peak District (as it was closer to our final destination - Manchester) but this seemed too good an opportunity to miss; and we were not disappointed!
Highly recommend this B&B if you have children/babies and also if you like animals and a little bit of rustic charm in this beautiful old house.

A lovely farmhouse circa 1640
July 2017
I needed accommodation for the night of 7th July and was fortunate to be given Mrs Dodd's telephone number. On arrival I was greeted by Cathy who showed me into a spacious sitting room in this delightful old farmhouse which has lots of original features.
After a welcoming cup of tea and introduction to Midge the dog I was shown to my suite of rooms, twin room and separate bathroom, before visiting my family who were staying a couple of miles away.
Feeling refreshed after a good nights sleep I had an enormous full English breakfast before taking several photographs of the farmhouse and the listed barn. Cathy Dodd is an excellent host and was happy to spend some time showing me around the gardens and the barn with its barn owl box. Sadly no owls this year but did see a wren feeding chicks.

Beautiful old farm
July 2017
Though somewhat hard to find after a 400 mile drive, we were pleasantly surprised to finally end up in an idyllical setting featuring a very old farmhouse and a garden one would die for. Breakfast was great and the service was excellent. All in all a great start of our holiday.

Peaceful haven
August 2017
Utterly charming, wonderful care and attention, excellent hosts and a great place to escape, sit in the garden and let all the worries of the world pass by. This was our 2nd visit and isn't going to be our last

Friendly and comfortable, excellent breakfast
August 2017
Beautiful and restful farmhouse, lovely garden and nearby lake. Cathy Dodd is an excellent and friendly host and provided (by prior request) packed lunch for my son who was attending a nearby young writers course. Breakfast was lovely, full English plus toast and homemade jam. Comfortable, large family room with ensuite, be prepared for usual farmyard sounds (chickens etc) but otherwise quiet. Friendly small dog (sorry can't remember the name!) and Herod the cat. Thank you so much Cathy.
